We are said to live in the age of new public governance and post-NPM. At the same time, the financial crisis has brought about pressures for austerity and 'cut-backs' in public services, potentially revitalising demands for more privatised and marketised forms of public service delivery. This panel explores empirical patterns and theoretical consequences of the contrasting images of public sector reform.
