Description

This panel welcomes paper proposals from researchers interested in the career paths of often overlooked political elites, specifically those who are not situated in elected office. These unobserved elites often influence political outcomes and leverage their power outside of public and academic scrutiny. Their backgrounds, career trajectories and influence on day-to-day politics are felt, yet remain unobserved, undescribed and under theorized. The panel seeks to explore any and all aspects that examine the backgrounds, career paths and impacts of elites such as advisors, politically-appointed staff, backroom party apparatchiks, interest group elites and bureaucrats.
